Hello LDV readers. It’s Karima from A Note on Style. This year, it feels like one season merges to the next with very little change. The usual markers for transitioning to fall have significantly diminished with a lack of back-to-school energy or September issues providing inspiration for seasonal updates. I’m not anticipating much change this month, but I’m a planner. Identifying new pieces that will give my wardrobe a kick of freshness going forward gives me something to look forward to.
Vince sweatshirt $279, SEA dress $365, Bottega Veneta bag $1890, Prada sandals $675, Timeless Pearly necklace $376, Vince sweater coat $545, Gucci bag $1690, Gabriela Hearst boots $1100, Golden Goose sneakers $630, Nili Lotan joggers $275
Sneakers and sandals for now and boots and loafers for later are my first priority. I know I’ll continue to wear jeans, casual dresses and relaxed bottoms for the foreseeable future, so a new pair of shoes will provide an instant update. To me, they’re often the gamechanger piece to create a worthy look.
Bags and jewelry are other items to add a modern note. Heavy gold link necklaces and bracelets feel very of the moment while avoiding the tag of trendy. Investing in luxe bags whose style will remain iconic for years to come is another. I feel like no matter what I’m wearing, a beautiful bag completes the look.
I’m selecting comfortable WFH pieces to lounge around in that will serve double duty if I want to dress them up. Neutral cashmere sweaters that pair with cropped leather pants or patterned trousers just as easily as they do with soft joggers are the focus for any new purchase. Upscale joggers that look appropriate with a blazer and flats get high marks too.
Meanwhile, as we endure the heat of September, I’ve been living in lightweight cotton dresses and flat sandals. However, I’m saving the summer color palette for next year and keeping those in fall tones readily available.
