Southampton Idyll

One of the modern women whose style I most admire is Lauren Santo Domingo, former editor at Vogue and founder of Moda Operandi. Lauren has chic homes in New York and Paris and recently added a beautiful home in Southampton. After an exhaustive search in the Hamptons enclave that only turned up massive old estates or small cottages, Santo Domingo and her husband, Andres decided to build a new “old” house instead. They turned to the celebrated architect, Gil Schafer who is known for his classic style and attention to detail. The gardens were designed by Miranda Brooks while designer Virginia Tupker spearheaded the interior design. Santo Domingo drew inspiration from various style icons including Renzo Mongiardino, Marella Agnelli, Hubert de Givenchy, Bunny Mellon, and Axel Vervoodt for the look and feel of this house resulting in a layered, collected look that emanates warmth and chic style. Be sure to check out the full tour in the September issue of Vogue.
