Happy Monday! Karima here from A Note on Style and I’m back with my latest column to help you get through the summer in style. Summer is in full swing and the weather is finally agreeing in most parts of the country. What to wear in the heat, to the beach, running around town, or on vacation? I’ve narrowed down the best pieces and looks that will easily take me through all sorts of scenarios this summer.
Summer 2018 is all about the one piece swimsuit for good reason. The options this year are amazing with sculptural details shaping my top picks. I’m also loving the range of interesting colors as an alternative to classic black or white.
I don’t shy away from wearing head-to-toe black in the warmer months. I think it looks incredibly chic with an understated elegance. I’m partial to flat black sandals with everything and can’t seem to get enough. They’re just so versatile and carry many outfits from day to night.
When not embracing head-to-toe black, I’ll likely switch over to all white. It’s a look that never grows old and I can’t imagine ever tiring of. White jeans are my go-to summer staple and I love them in all silhouettes and length. I’ve never actually become attached to skinny white jeans and prefer a straight or boot cut, both long or cropped Pairing with a white tee, tailored shirt or soft knit is one of my everyday uniforms.
Woven bags have earned their spot on the streets with designs and patterns that have an urban edge. They literally transform any look to read summer ready. In my opinion, the best ones lie flat to guarantee they’re travel friendly for any resort destinations.
The LBD takes a back seat to the LWD in summer and I don’t mind at all. I like romantic details without being sweet, and lightweight linens and cottons for soft structure. An addition of eyelet, embroidery, lace or texture is the game changer in creating the most noteworthy white dresses.
Is there a more classic summer combo than a striped tee and straw hat? I have a growing collection of both. The various weights, weaves and colors make the pairing fresh.
Every year I’m on the lookout for new white shirts to perk up my wardrobe. This year I’m all about the sleeve. I like a rolled up sporty look as much as a romantic bell sleeve and am happy with anything but the purely basic. There are just too many interesting options, why settle for plain?
All the looks I could conjure up look best when complemented with beauty products that are specifically geared towards summer. Think pale lips with a shimmer, a natural looking faux tan, and a fresh beachy scent for starters. Pop on a pair of tortoise frames and voila…instant summer chic.
