Happy Friday! It’s been such a strange week with a holiday right in the middle of it. That being said, it’s been a very productive week with lots of big picture planning and some very exciting things on the horizon. Hopefully, you got to do something fun for the Fourth of July. Unfortunately, we had torrential downpours in Houston, so we just stayed home since the area around us flooded. Thankfully, the water receded quickly and all is fine. We don’t have much planned this weekend, which I am actually looking forward to, especially since we’ll be traveling for part of next week. Here is what has been on my radar lately!
Design: The perennially stylish Amanda Brooks, known as an insider in the fashion world, has recently written a new book, Farm From Home and has opened a chic shop called Cutter Brooks in the Cotswolds in England, where she moved to her English husband’s family’s estate, Fairgreen Farm a few years ago. I’ve seen snippets of the store on Instagram and features a chic assortment of English country-inspired items for the home. Think block-printed fabrics, framed botanicals, antiques, wicker, rattan, and beautiful tabletop items.
Style: I just about died and went to heaven on Wednesday after seeing the glorious Valentino Fall ’18/Winter ’19 Haute Couture Collection. The current creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli is a veritable genius. His color combinations and attention to detail are second to none. I am so inspired by the entire collection, particularly this pink silk tulle confection seen on model Kaia Gerber, who as you surely know, is the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. I was not only dying over the clothing in this collection, but over the styling. The va-va-vavoom, 1960s glamazon hair was to die for. Give me all the glamour! I can’t get enough!
Read: One of my favorite interior designers, Veere Grenney has a book coming out in September just after mine! Veere Grenney: A Point of View on Decorating will be released on September 18th and is available for pre-order now. You can see a few of my favorite projects of his here.
Watch: Fabian and I love shows about business and frequently watch Shark Tank and The Profit. We just recently discovered another show on CNBC that we’ve been enjoying quite a bit. The Deed features a real estate investor in New Orleans by the name of Sidney Torres. Sidney is a successful entrepreneur and real estate investor. In each episode, he helps a novice house flipper to improve their project and bring it to the finish line while turning a profit. It’s super interesting as well as endearing as Torres seems to take a genuine interest in each of his partners and goes out of his way to teach them the tools of running a successful business.
Drink: Last weekend, we went out to dinner with friends and ordered a couple of different bottles of wine. As much as I enjoy wine and as many times as we have visited Napa Valley, I don’t consider myself a super serious oenophile, but I know what I like, which is why I found this article on How to Order Wine Like a Professional super helpful.
Career: The other day, I came across a very interesting interview on Jenni Kayne’s blog, Rip & Tan with my friend, Susan Feldman, the founder of One Kings Lane. In it, Susan discusses her latest venture, In the Groove, which is targeted towards women over 50 and she also delves into her experience as an entrepreneur, which as a business owner, I found both fascinating and helpful. I’m off to download all of the podcasts Susan mentioned! Meanwhile, you can read the interview here.
Shop: The dog days of summer are the perfect time for pretty dresses. Not only is it too hot for pants, but dresses keep you feeling cool and looking polished, so it’s a win-win. I’m currently loving this off-the-shoulder white number which is perfect for date night and happens to be on major sale; this pretty, printed blue and white maxi dress; this super flattering black wrap dress (it’s a little low-cut for me, so I’d take it to my seamstress or wear a little came underneath), and this blue and red, off-the-shoulder dress with blousy sleeves and ruffled hem might be my favorite. All it needs is a great pair of earrings!
Have a wonderful weekend!
