Enduring Glamour at Legends of La Cienega

I have been in Los Angeles all week for a big design event, Legends of La Cienega. The event centers on a different theme each year and a group of designers are asked to design windows for the showrooms in the LCDQ around this theme. For 2018, the theme is “Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Home” and this year, I was honored to have been asked to design the window for Mecox, one of my very favorite showrooms in the heart of the LCDQ. I named my window “Enduring Glamour” and interpreted the theme by driving home the point that classic design elements never go out of style.

I took things that I love and frequently use and interpreted them in a modern way. I used a beautiful, hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper by Gracie, but did it in black and white to make it feel fresh and modern. I then had a custom skirted console made by The CEH with Kravet fabric and Brunschwig et Fils trim. I used a pair of Prussian Blue lamps by Christopher Spitzmiller and had the most beautiful, custom ikat lampshades made using a Kravet fabric. A pair of distressed pedestals are topped with custom tole orchids by Tommy Mitchell. I love a bamboo motif, so the Madegoods mirror was the perfect touch. I wanted the space to feel super glamorous, so I picked crystal and brass sconces and a plaster chandelier by AERIN for Visual Comfort. Finally, to temper the color and more feminine and glamorous elements, I used a pair of Billy Baldwin-style slipper chairs by Oomph and had them upholstered in a black and white ticking stripe. The pillows are the same ikat as the lampshades, while a sisal rug and big topiaries in seagrass baskets ground the space, adding texture and a sense of effortlessness.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to design this window and am thrilled with the way the window turned out. It was so fun to bring to life this very accurate interpretation of my own personal style. A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Mecox, the LCDQ, our partners, and of course, my Paloma Contreras Design team to help me bring my design to life!
