Sleeping Beauty

Yesterday, we took a tour of the 2018 Kips Bay Decorators Showhouse together, here on LDV. Today, we’ll take a deeper look at one of the most beautiful rooms in the showhouse, a bedroom dubbed “Sleeping Beauty”, designed by my talented friend, Mark Sikes. Mark is a brilliant designer and an even more gifted storyteller. This room tells the story of enduring beauty and timeless style, inspired by the iconic bedroom of Pauline de Rothschild. In Mark’s words, “at showhouses, you want to create something really innovative, but I also wanted to create something that will look great in 30 years”. That timeless beauty comes courtesy of hand-painted Gracie wallpaper, a custom Louis XVI-style bed in a gilded finish, which bears a stripe from Mark’s fabric collection with Schumacher, along with antiques from the estates of Bunny Mellon and CZ Guest, exquisite porcelain flowers by Vladimir Kanevsky, an English dhurrie rug, and a tented vestibule. There are so many wonderful details in this space. As usual, Mark and his team have made it beautiful.
