Happy Friday! This week has been a complete whirlwind. I am finally starting to feel better after dealing with a bad sinus infection for the past ten days. The best part of this week has been the incredible response to my book announcement! I am truly overwhelmed by the kind words and support from everyone who has pre-ordered a copy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Aside from that, we had a big installation at a client’s house this week and are currently working on some new design projects that I am very excited about. This weekend, I am hoping to clean out my closet– famous last words! Hopefully, I’ll muster up the motivation to do it. In the meantime, here is what has been on my radar this week. Have a wonderful weekend!
Design: Did you know that Architectural Digest has a new digital platform called Clever? It is geared towards a savvy, younger audience and the content is really strong. They recently featured the Gramercy Park apartment of Michael de Perno and Andrew Fry, owners of the super chic store, Plain Goods in Litchfield County, Connecticut. Their apartment is effortlessly stylish, dressed in a palette of perfect neutrals. The spaces are polished and timeless, but maintain a relaxed quality to them. There is a great mix of modern and traditional elements as well. It is also a great case study for how fresh antiques can look in a more streamlined environment. You can tour the apartment here.
Style: The inimitable Hubert de Givenchy passed away this Monday at age 91. A man of impeccable taste, both in the worlds of fashion and interiors, his influence and eternal style will live on. It seems he was a man who not only created beauty, but also cultivated kindness in his personal relationships. His impeccable taste and elegant élan will be missed.
Read: The highlight of my week was being able to share the cover of my upcoming book with Abrams, Dream. Design. Live. with you! This book is the culmination of years of hard work, from dreaming of one day writing a book to designing the fourteen projects in the book to spending last summer shooting them all and months spent writing the manuscript. Dream. Design. Live. is a practical and inspiring guide about all of the things I love about design. It is filled with practical advice, inspiration, and hundreds of never-before-seen images. A huge thank you to everyone who has already pre-ordered it! I cannot wait for you to read and hope that you like it and find it inspiring and useful. You can pre-order your copy here!
Watch: This past Sunday, CNN aired the first episode in their six-episode mini docuseries, American Dynasties: The Kennedys. I was intrigued as soon as I saw this trailer, showing vintage clips of the Kennedys set against singer Lana del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful”. Their story is so fascinating. I knew of some of the more high-profile tragedies that have befallen the family, but I didn’t know about the fates of some of the older children. It’s all so tragic and yet, the family’s undeniable magnetism is as alluring today as it was generations ago. Episode two airs this Sunday, so be sure to tune in.
Travel: I have been majorly craving a trip back to Paris lately! I am trying to figure out where we might be able to squeeze in another trip to gather inspiration and shop for antiques either before my book tour, which is really soon, or in late November after the first big leg of the book tour. In the meantime, I have saved Ann Street Studio’s list of the Best Places to Eat and Drink in Paris for my next visit.
Shop: Sure, spring is the season for pastels and florals. In the words of Miranda Priestly, “how groundbreaking”! I’ve found myself drawn to a few new, black items (shocking, I know!) like this pretty top and this chic pair of flats. One Kings Lane also just debuted their new outdoor collection which features some really lovely furniture and fun umbrellas!
