Happy Friday! I am so ready for the weekend. We had a big installation yesterday for our clients who had flooded in Hurricane Harvey. It felt so nice to see how much they loved everything and how relieved and grateful they were to be back in their home. It has been such a long road for those affected by the flooding caused by the hurricane. The weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful this weekend, so Fabian and I are going to check out the houses and gardens on this year’s Azalea Trail tomorrow afternoon. This year’s houses are said to be fabulous, so I am looking forward to a leisurely afternoon of design inspiration. It runs today through Sunday, so if you live in Houston, you should definitely check it out. In the meantime, here’s what’s been happening lately!
Design: In January, while I was in Atlanta for a speaking engagement, Ballard Designs invited me to be a guest on their Podcast, How to Decorate. We sometimes have to mix a little high and low on projects, so Ballard is a favorite resource for that. Their collaborations with Suzanne Kasler, Bunny Williams, and most recently, Miles Redd provide a huge design bang for the buck! I was thrilled to chat with their charming team. The podcast is a full hour long ( I come in at the ten minute mark), so we covered a lot from my upcoming book, Dream.Design.Live and the evolution of my business to working with fabrics and color palettes and what I find to be the biggest faux pas. You can listen to it here and I’d love to hear your thoughts afterward!
Style: Can you believe the Oscars are this Sunday? How is it already March?! I think I did pretty well this year and ended up watching a few Oscar-nominated movies before the awards show, which I don’t always get around to doing. I’ve seen I, Tonya, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, Ladybird, and Call Me By Your Name, which I enjoyed the most out of this group. Which ones have you seen and who do you hope will win on Sunday night?
Watch: Last weekend, Fabian and I were feeling under the weather. I seem to have shaken whatever it was, but he has been sick all week. Poor guy! I always find that rest is super important when one isn’t feeling well, so we spent the majority of the weekend at home. I finally got around to watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime and I LOVED it! I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I binge watched the whole season in one weekend, but it’s so good, that I don’t really care. I just wish I didn’t have to wait so long until the new season is out. I don’t want to spoil the show for you, but you can watch the trailer here. The show is witty, smart, funny, and the costume and set design are fabulous! I predict that the lead actress, Rachel Brosnahan is going to be a huge star!
Read: The March issue of Flower Magazine will be hitting newsstands very soon and I am thrilled to share that a feature called “My Hometown” features my guide to the best my city of Houston has to offer. I am absolutely thrilled and delighted with the ten-page spread the magazine devoted to the story and how beautifully they showcased our diverse and resilient city. You can read the story here, but be sure to pick up a copy of the magazine!
Shop: Shopbop is having a huge “Buy More, Save More” sale through tomorrow with 15% off purchases of $200 or more; 20% off orders of $500 or more; and 25% off purchase over $800. It is the perfect time to stock up on new pieces for Spring or to splurge on a great pair of shoes! I have these Rumi Mules in the Leopard Calf Hair and they are so comfortable that I have been considering the pink silk. You can never go wrong with a pretty, white blouse and this one is a steal. My obsession with ikat textiles knows no bounds, so I recently ordered these Aquazzura Powder Puff plates in blue, but they also come in amethyst, azalea pink, and lime. I only wish that I had waited for this sale to get 20% off!
