Happy Friday! Can you believe today is the first day of December? This year seems to have flown by, but I say that every year. The older I get, the faster time seems to pass. Do you feel that way, too? I’m glad this week has gone by as quickly as it has because this weekend is Theta Design Weekend here in Houston as I mentioned earlier this week. One of my dearest friends, Mark Sikes is in town, so I am looking forward to hanging out and spending time together. Several other design friends are also here and I am speaking on a panel on Sunday at 1:30 pm, so it will be an eventful, design-filled weekend. Here’s what has been on my mind this week.
Design: Houston fashion blogger, Caroline Knapp of House of Harper just interviewed my friend, Bailey McCarthy, founder of Biscuit Home about entrepreneurship, balancing work and family, knowing when to go for it and knowing when to say no. I have a lot of admiration for what Bailey has built and really enjoyed reading this insightful interview. Bailey was very candid and offered a lot of great advice for those working in creative fields. Read the post here.
Style: Everyone I know has been talking about the royal engagement! It’s crazy to think I’m this excited about the engagement of two people I’ve never met— Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but I’m thrilled for this beautiful couple. I grew up idolizing Diana and am the same age as William, so I’ve been watching the royals my entire life. They seem so in love. I’m sure Diana would be so proud of her boys and the women they’ve chosen to share their lives with. I read that Meghan’s coat sold out almost immediately after their press conference. There’s no doubt that the world will be watching her quite closely from now on. She will be thought of as a style icon by many and criticized by others. I don’t know much about her, but she seems absolutely lovely. She’s smart, beautiful, passionate about her charitable endeavors, and I love that she does not fit the traditional mold of what was once considered an appropriate wife for a member of the royal family. But on to the more important question– what will her wedding gown look like? It’s such an exciting time!
Listen: Speaking of the royal family, I recently received a press release about a new podcast by filmmaker and documentarian, Andrew Jenks called “What Really Happened?” about Princess Diana and her legacy which looks incredibly intriguing. How different things will be for Meghan and Kate than they were for Diana! I am looking forward to listening to the entire podcast this weekend. You can watch a teaser video here.
Eat: If you need a great idea for a hostess gift, client gift, or gift for your co-workers, look no further than Studmuffin Desserts’ clever Stud Buckets of signature cookies. Stud muffin Desserts was founded by Seth Raphaeli of New York. After working as a banker on Wall Street for 15 years, Seth sought to go into the food business and created a clever and delicious line of low-calorie desserts that are big on taste! We sampled several flavors in our office this week and loved the cleverly named Marie Antoinettes, a brilliantly colored cake-flavored cookie, the divine chocolate chip Sinners & Saints Cookies, and the addictive, gluten-free Bleecker Street Brittle. Be sure to order early for holiday gifts as processing takes 2-3 days before they ship, but trust me when I say they are worth the wait!
Shop: The LDV Holiday Gift Guides are in full swing! This week, I added my top picks for the children on your list. You can shop all of the guides here, which include a few of my favorite things such as this darling Riviera Kid’s Table and Chairs, a handy leather charger roll-up, and these chic, Matisse-inspired earrings which are under $50. Stay tuned for more gift guides to come!
