Five Minutes With: Wilson Henley and Bruce Glickman of George Home

I have admired the style of Wilson Henley and Bruce Glickman, partners in life and in business for over a decade. I still recall a chic house in Connecticut that they designed which was featured in ELLE DECOR back in 2007 and really resonated with me. Their style continues to inspire and their business has recently evolved. Formerly of Duane in Manhattan, Wilson and Bruce decided to make their country home in Washington, CT their full-time residence and opened up a stylish shop called George Home ( a nod to George Washington) along with their business partner, Betsey Nestler. “George Home features a well selected and inspired global mix of mid-century modern, antique and contemporary furniture, objects, art, accessories, lighting and unique tabletop” for a look that is timeless and beautifully layered. The look is built on a foundation of neutral colors, rich textures, a mix of styles from around the globe, and a more masculine-leaning slant which results in an aesthetic that is not only quite chic, but also maintains an effortless, relaxed quality. Many of the stylish offerings are available online for anyone outside of Connecticut. In addition, George Home also offers design services.

Paloma Contreras: How would you describe your style?

Wilson Henley & Bruce Glickman: Our style at George is an eclectic mix of global accessories and furniture with strong mid-century design. Clean lines and elegant tailored shapes in neutral tones peppered with strong black and metal accents. Art, tabletop, unusual finds. We hope it’s an amazing place to shop.

PC: What was the best vacation you have ever been on?

WH & BG: The best vacation we’ve ever had was to Thailand and Vietnam. The scenery delivered a lush and exotic feel while the calm and tranquil people and savory, clean cuisine made this extended trip a treat for every sense. Scandinavia is a close second. Completely different. Equally as satisfying.

PC: Which artist resonates most deeply with you?

WH & BG: Favorite artists include Franz Kline, Cy Twombly, Gerhard Richter and Brice Marden. We would love to live with (or own) any or all of these!

PC: What is your favorite album of all time?

WH & BG: Our favorite album is Joni Mitchell’s Blue. As beautiful and relevant now as it was when it came out.  Pure poetry.

{I have loved this chic study designed by Wilson and Bruce since I first saw it published in ELLE DECOR ten years ago!}

PC: If you were to take up residence in a hotel for a year, which one would you choose and why?

WH & BG: If we had to be “stuck” at a hotel for a year, and we got to pick it, we’d most likely say Positano’s Le Sireneuse on the Amalfi Coast. The view and décor are divine, especially the vines crawling through the windows and don’t even get us started on the food. Closer to home: The Carlyle with a nightly cocktail hour at Bemelmans Bar.
