Big, Exciting News!

The past few weeks have been filled with some really amazing “pinch me” moments. Every now and then, it is important to reflect on where we started and how far we have come. I have written my blog for nearly ten years and over the course of that time, I have experienced a great deal of change, growth, and have had the good fortune of using the blog as a tool to shape my career. As many of you know, design is my second career which was truly made possible through my blog. Writing La Dolce Vita has given me a voice and has allowed me to refine my point of view. It has afforded me incredible friendships, mentorships, and the ability to connect with so many likeminded individuals. It has opened doors and has lead me down a path I never knew was possible.

It hasn’t always been easy to maintain an active, consistent blog five days a week for nearly ten years, but it has always been worth it. Building this blog, creating this special community, and fostering the relationships that I have, has taken a lot of time, energy, and work, but it has all been well spent. I couldn’t have known it when I decided to start a blog back in July 2007, but doing so would be one of the best decisions of my life as it would eventually lead me to my true calling as an interior designer. I am eternally grateful to all of you who have shown up here day after day, year after year to read about what is currently inspiring me. Thank you for your support and for sharing your advice, your stories, and your feedback along the way. Now that I have gone on a tangent, I should probably get back to the embarrassment of riches that is the point of this post– the things I am currently so thankful for.

ELLE DECOR New Talent May 17

{The May issue of ELLE DECOR just hit newsstands and it features a very fun story called “New Talent: Shooting Stars” about the top ten designers to follow on Instagram and how we use Instagram as a creative outlet and business tool. I am so thrilled to be featured in one of my favorite magazines alongside so many talented friends including Mark Sikes, Grant Gibson, Alyssa and Vivian of Kapito Muller, Ashley Whittaker, Suysel and Anne of Tilton Fenwick, Nick Olsen, and Sara Gilbane. If you’re curious about who to follow on Instagram, look no further than this article!}

Forbes Top 5 Influencers

{On Monday, Forbes released their inaugural list of the Top 30 Influencers of 2017. I am beyond flattered and thrilled to have been included as the #4 influencer in the Home category! It is an incredible recognition and honor. I really am so lucky to be able to write this blog and design homes for my clients as my job and when someone like Forbes takes note, it is unbelievable.}

Paloma Contreras Books

{Last, but not least is the news I am most excited to share with you. If you read the Forbes article, you may have seen this new project mentioned, so I thought it best to share the news in a more intimate setting, here on LDV. For more than a year, I have been working on a book proposal and recently accepted an offer from Abrams to publish my book! From the beginning, I dreamed of landing at Abrams because so many of my favorite books have been published there. They do the most incredible job with inspiring content and beautiful layouts. When it was decided we would be working with Abrams and my editor in particular, who has worked on several of my favorite books pictured above, I was over the moon! I am currently hard at work writing the book in between client projects and blog posts. We will shoot quite a few, never-before-seen projects for the book this summer. I will share more details along the way and will be sure to give you some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks when we begin shooting. The book is slated for publication in Fall of 2018, so stay tuned!}

  1. So happy for you Paloma. Im sure the blog takes discipline and your readers greatly appreciate it, Good to know that your hard work on the blog has paid off for your career as well and not just readers like me who look forward to each post!

  2. From a designer who intentionally created a wonderful career in this industry I say Bravo to you and toot your own horn as loud as you can! To do all this as your second choice is amazing. You have earned every accolade with the late night hours no one sees, the nurturing of an idea, the anticipation and exhaustion of a project. Getting up every day and doing the things that are right for you have benefited us all!-Laurel Bledsoe

  3. Paloma,

I admire your dedication to creating a daily blog with such wonderful high quality content! Cheers! Debra Zinn

  7. Hi Paloma,
    Wow, congratulations! As a long time subscriber, I am so happy to see all of your hard work and talent recognized and rewarded.

  8. Paloma your blog has been my favorite from the start, I am so excited to see where it has led you and what has blossomed from it. Your hard work has paid off and you deserve every pinch me moment that has arrived. Many blessings for the next year looking forward, I truly will be the first in line buying that book because my personal style so resonates with yours that I know it will be a new favorite.

  9. Congratulations on all of your accolades! The thing that I love most about your blog is that you post 5 days a week. Your content is consistent and inspiring and your due diligence has definitely paid off. I wish you continued success and I look forward to your book!

  10. Congratulations on your new book deal. I also enjoyed reading about your journey and history with your blog. It’s quite inspiring since I am still very new to the blog industry.

  11. WOW! WOW! WOW! Congrats Paloma!
    So inspiring to see someone achieve so many of their dreams, so encouraging to see that hard work works!

  12. Paloma, I’ve never commented here before, but I’ve been a long time reader (ever since Apartment Therapy featured you on a list of best design blogs) and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to congratulate you on all of your recent accomplishments. I hope this is just the beginning of more and more recognition for you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful ideas and inspiration with us all these years!

  13. Congratulations, Paloma! This is proof that hard work, passion and perseverance really do pay off! I am happy to have been following along for so many of these ten years and witness your incredible accomplishments!

  14. Congratulations! I’ve never commented before, but I’ve been reading since 2008, and I’ve enjoyed seeing how your career has developed. Can’t wait to buy the book!

  15. Your site is so well-designed, elegant, sophisticated, and professional.

    This professionalism is something your clients look for! You are the only blogger I look at who posts early, every single day. I can tell you’re a professional and if you serviced New York I would hire you. 🙂

    1. Thank you for the kind words, Jeanne! We currently have projects on both coasts and work outside of Houston quite frequently. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need help with your home!

  16. Congrats to you! I want to thank you for the best design blog out there. I have learned a lot from you and agree that your influence is powerful. You have taught me the value of classic design and to invest in fewer, higher-quality pieces. So many of the design blog rooms are filled to the brim with trendy junk. I look forward to buying your book! Thanks for the effort you put into your blog!

  17. I am a fairly new subscriber to your blog but look forward to reading it everyday. I’m a busy executive, wife and mother so I am very selective about what I read in my leisure time. Your blog is the perfect balance of design with a little personal insight into your life/travels. I am so looking forward to your book. Wish you continued success!

  18. Exciting indeed. You must be over the moon receiving so much recognition from such highly regarded publications. Congratulations.

  19. Paloma, this is so well deserved!!! I truly enjoy your posts every day and find your taste and advice to be inspirational. I never realized the blog was the catalyst that led you to your second career that makes your wisdom even more meaningful. Congratulations enjoy the moment!

    Forever Chic!

  20. Paloma, wow so amazing!!! Congratulations, I am so excited, happy and do very proud of you. I can’t wait to buy your book! I will need to buy two because Liliana loved to decorate and I’m sure she will want her own copy. :). Congratulations again. Your hard work has paying off.

  22. Congratulations and well deserved. I remember meeting you at the very first Design Bloggers conference in Los Angeles when all of this was so new. I look forward to the new book. Enjoy your success!

  23. Congratulations Paloma! The accolades are so well deserved. I adore your blog and look forward to each and every post. Thank you for years of inspiration!
