Jet Set: The Whitby Hotel

Tim and Kit Kemp’s collection of Firmdale Hotels is renowned for its attention to detail, vivacious interiors, and warm hospitality. Last year, we stayed at one of their hotels, The Ham Yard, in London. It was so lovely and inspiring to experience Kit’s signature design style in person. Her modern take on British style is on full display at all of the Firmdale Hotels she has designed, including the most recent addition, The Whitby Hotel in Manhattan’s midtown, just a short walk from Central Park. As is the case with all of the Firmdale hotels, each of the 86 guest rooms is different from the next, with a unique combination of vibrant fabrics and furnishings along with a variety of their quintessential, statement-making headboard silhouettes. Everything is executed with its on distinct brand of cozy, British charm. The Whitby is also home to a library, The Whitby Bar, The Conservatory where tea is served each afternoon, along with a movie theater and state-of-the-art gym. I am heading to New York in a few weeks. While I won’t be staying at The Whitby this time around, I’ve already made a dinner reservation at The Whitby Bar for a taste of what we experienced in London and look forward to staying there on another visit in the future.the whitby reception 2{The Reception}

{The Whitby Bar: One of my favorite things about the Ham Yard was that every table was set with a fine linen tablecloth along with real china and silver. It made eating breakfast there each morning a real treat since such things are becoming more rare in restaurants.}
