PCD Friday Favorites 02 10

I cannot believe it is already Friday! Last weekend, we were in The Hamptons and New York City for work and flew home Monday, so the rest of this week has gone by in the blink of an eye. It has been a couple of weeks since my last installment of Friday Favorites, so I am excited to share a few new things on my radar with you. Shall we?

Design: I read the March issue of House Beautiful on the way home from New York from cover to cover. It’s their color issue, so each project is vibrant and different from the next. Nick Olsen and Elizabeth Bauer Watt have some very beautiful projects in this issue, so it is a definite must-read!
Style: By now, you all know that I have an affinity for deGournay’s beautiful, hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpapers. I used one in the bedroom I designed for the Southern Style Now Showhouse last summer and have framed panels in my own dining room. Naturally, I was thrilled to see the new Moda Operandi x deGournay collaboration featuring a couple of beautiful, silk robe designs. Each one is hand-painted featuring a beautiful Chinoiserie design. Can you think of anything more chic than that?

Eat: So, the highlight of last week’s New York trip was meeting my idol, Ina Garten and her adorable husband Jeffrey while out to dinner in Bridgehampton! They are everything you would expect and more– gracious, lovely, and funny! I can normally keep it cool when it comes to star sightings, but this was definitely my best one yet! If you love Ina as much as I do, you’ll want to read this Bon Appetit article: 3 Kitchen Tools Ina Garten Can’t Live Without. How great is that?

Watch: With a star-studded cast including Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, the new HBO drama, Big Little Lies looks devilishly entertaining! The drama, the beautiful Monterey scenery, and the mystery look too enticing to pass up. It premieres February 19th, so set your DVRs! Have you read the book by the same name that the series is based upon per chance? Would you recommend it?

Read: Speaking of books, we discovered the most beautiful book while shopping for coffee table books for the installation at our client’s house in Southampton. It was so nice to go into a small, independently-owned bookstore! The shopkeeper at Southampton Books was so friendly and knowledgeable. He mentioned that this significant, sizable book, Hamptons Gardens is going out of print soon. The last time it went out of print, he said it was trading for a few thousand dollars, so it is a definite collector’s piece. There are only 8 left in stock, so act fast!

Beauty: I don’t really ever wear my hair up, except to wash my face, but I love the look of a loose velvet ribbon tied around a loose ponytail or a braid. The look is chic, classic, and romantic.

Shop: While we are on the topic of romance, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so be sure to check out our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for the perfect gift for your special someone!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. the book is an easy, guilty-pleasure read and I do recommend it, although they took many liberties with the story line so far. The book is set in Australia for example while the series is based in CA. I also recommend “The Husband’s Secret” by the same author, Liane Moriarty. Even better than “Big Little Lies.”

  2. As an Aussie I am disappointed to hear “Big Little Lies” produced for HBO is set in CA. I have read most of Liane Moriarty books and have found them all very entertaining, all set around Sydney.
