Behind the Scenes at Verellen

I have been a fan of Verellen for years, since we love using their upholstery in our clients’ homes at Paloma Contreras Design. Verellen is always on my itinerary at High Point because their showroom truly feels like a little slice of St.Barth’s in the middle of North Carolina. Everything is clean-lined and upholstered in classic neutrals, so it is also a nice respite from the visual overload that comes with market. Founded in 1999 Tom and Sabine Verellen, natives of Antwerp, Belgium, Verellen brings together a perfect combination of European sophistication and American comfort. Verellen is an eco-friendly manufacturer, who prides itself on sourcing the most sustainable materials available – FSC Certified lumber, reclaimed metal coils, hand-spun natural fibers, and even recycled packing materials – all a Verellen standard. Every piece of furniture in their line is made-to-order at their manufacturing facility in High Point, North Carolina, so I have the satisfaction of knowing that the new sofas for my living room are eco-friendly and sustainably made by hand in America.

Because of my recent partnership with Verellen, I had the very special privilege of being invited to their manufacturing facility in High Point during my latest trip to Market. Tom Verellen, the owner and creative force behind Verellen gave me a tour of their new facility. I was very impressed by the brightness and organization in this particular warehouse. The energy from the employees was great and you could tell that they all have such a passion for their craft. I always find it so refreshing to see people making things with their hands and sharing their passion whether it is wine, food, design, or in this case, exceptionally well-made upholstery and casegoods.

There were so many beautiful things at the Verellen showroom at High Point Market this past October. These are just a few of my favorite standouts.

  1. I too love Verellen. Please tell me if you know who carries the straw pendants over the dining table in the photo? I am in love with those! Please, please!!
Thank you for your amazing taste and posts.

    1. Hi Leslie,

I don’t know it off the top of my head, but I do know that the art in the showroom is usually for sale. I would contact Verellen and ask them for the info.

      Happy Holidays!
