I am always finding new things to be inspired by or to obsess over, so yesterday morning, as I was getting ready for work, I thought it might be fun to introduce a new series on Fridays called “Friday Favorites” where I can share things that may not merit an entire blog post of their own, but that are still definitely worth sharing. I’ll still share some Fabulous Rooms on Fridays, but as I’ve mentioned, sometimes, it can feel a little bit like finding a needle in a haystack when I am in search of something swoon-worthy that hasn’t already been seen a million times before. Friday Favorites will be a fun way to shake things up and hopefully give you some ideas for new things to check out. Enjoy!
Style: It’s finally cool enough for fall clothes in Houston and I couldn’t be happier! I wore a cotton sweater yesterday and was in heaven. I love this chic olive green sweater with matching knit belt paired with a pleated midi-skirt, worn by the stylish and lovely Giorgia Tordini.
Design: I love color and certainly love pattern, but I love a beautifully-designed neutral space just as much. This tailored room by Amy Morris certainly fits the bill. You can never go wrong with a room dressed in cream and chocolate hues!
Watch: I started watching The Crown on Netflix last weekend and I am obsessed! It is so beautifully done from the set design and costumes to the accurate detail with which historic details are relayed. I can’t wait to watch more episodes, though I am trying not to binge on too many once in order to make the season last. The good news is that they’ve reportedly committed to six seasons, each one detailing a decade in Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The last season will take place when Princess Diana enters the picture. If you love period pieces and just about anything British like I do, it is a must-watch! See the trailer here.
Listen: I love so many types of music, but one of my favorite genres is the sort of folk rock that came from the great singer songwriters of the 1970s. Neil Young is one of my favorite musicians and his song, Harvest Moon tugs at my heartstrings every time I hear it. The song was technically released in 1992, but it has the same quality and sound of his earlier work. It is such a sweet and tender song. I’ve been married for 11 years, but if we had to do it all over again, we would have an autumn wedding in Napa and this would be our song.
Read: I read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert years ago and like most everyone, I loved it. Naturally, I was curious about her latest book, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, so I bought it at the airport when I was flying home from High Point a few weeks ago. I will be heading to New York this weekend and am really looking forward to finishing it on the plane. I’ve found myself dog-earing so many pages and highlighting multiple passages. It is exactly what I needed to read at a time when I am taking some big creative risks and need to keep pushing myself beyond my trepidation for the unknown and make these things a reality. It’s super inspiring for anyone who works in a creative field or would like to live a more creative life. I’d highly recommend it!
Eat: I have found that Fabian and I have been eating out more than I’d like because it can be hard for us to find the time and energy to cook during the week. This great video has inspired me to try a few healthy, easy, and quick meal options soon. We love salmon, so it’s great to see four versions of a one-pan salmon meal.
