A Very Happy Birthday

Today is my 34th birthday and earlier this week, I received a very special surprise. I have the distinct honor and thrill of being named to LUXE Magazine‘s “New Guard” List of 10 Designers to Know. I am so grateful to be included along with my talented peers, David John Dick and Krista Schrock of DISC Interiors, Catherine Kwong, Frances Merrill, Megan Winters, Brian Paquette, Andee Hess, Patrick Mele, Andrew Brown, and Caleb Anderson. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday surprise!

As a matter of fact, I am currently in Los Angeles for a few business meetings and to attend LUXE’s  Maison de Luxe Showhouse at Greystone Mansion. I attended the opening gala of the last Maison de Luxe back in 2011 and had the best time. I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful spaces as imagined by this year’s participating designers, many of whom are friends. I am fortunate to love my career as much as I do. It truly is my dream, although I don’t know that I could have ever dreamed it up the way that it has played out. Thankfully, the line between my personal and professional lives is pretty blurred, so I always have a good time on my work trips since I am surrounded by inspiration and many of my dearest friends are also in the design industry.

I’ll leave you with a peek of the feature from LUXE’s November/December 2015 issue and a few more images of the project that they used for my profile in the story before I add them to my design firm’s website. I designed this house for a young, hip family. They love color and pattern and have traveled extensively which is reflected in the eclectic and playful aesthetic of the home. We took what was a dated spec house in Houston’s West University neighborhood and made it feel much more suited to who they are and how they live. Although this was a decorating project and didn’t involve any major remodeling, we were still able to give the client a pretty big transformation. It was a fun project to work on, especially since most clients prefer color and pattern in smaller doses. It is fun to be fearless!

{The first floor living area is very open, so the breakfast room had to stand up to two young children, but also needed to be attractive. The client had a collection of decorative plates she wanted to use, so we hung them over the custom banquette which is upholstered in bulletproof, yet sumptuous Perennials fabric. We paired the lively banquette with a classic, oversized Hicks pendant, a tulip table, and Bertoia-style chairs.}

{In the living room, I had the built-ins painted in Benjamin Moore’s Racoon Fur to make the space feel more modern. We added a pair of skirted sofas, some masculine leather armchairs, and layered an antique kilim rug over seagrass.}

{I chose Brunschwig & Fils chic Les Touches fabric and a John Robshaw fabric for the throw pillows.}

{A Bone Inlay Table, Gilded AERIN Lamp, and Gold Accessories Add a Touch of Glamour}

{Osborne & Little’s Best in Show Wallpaper Adds a Dose of Fun in the Powder Room}

{This study had lime green walls and dark brown millwork when I first got my hands on it! We softened it up and made it decidedly more feminine.}

{We added a custom, built-in window seat, throw pillows, and a roman shade in Kelly Wearstler’s Bengal Bazaar fabric.}

{In the master bedroom, we used Katie Ridder beautiful leaf wallpaper along with more John Robshaw fabric and vintage Suzani pillows. The only thing we kept from before was the bed.}

{The clients were so thrilled with the finished product and it made me so happy to be able to transform their home into something that brings them so much joy!}
