Seeing Stripes: Chic Awnings

Awnings are a great way of adding architectural interest to the facade of a house and they do double duty by providing shade from the hot sun. Lately, I haven’t been able to get enough of striped awnings, especially black and white ones. I don’t think they would work on my existing house from an aesthetic standpoint, but you’d better believe I have them tucked away in my dream home file. Yes, I think they would be just perfect on a white bricked Georgian or Colonial house with black shutters and black lacquered door. The home of Houston-based landscape designer extraordinaire, Cedar Baldridge is featured in the August issue of Paper City and it put chic awnings front and center in my mind once more. No one does chic awnings quite like Cedar!

  1. Love them! We’re considering taking the plunge to paint our brick and I would really like to use awnings for some added interest – I, too, love how they look against a white brick house. For our own home, I’m thinking spear design, solid black (and maybe a white trim?) with a fairly shallow projection.

  2. Wow! This is beautiful! I am in love with stripes right now! I have been wanting to add black striped curtains to our patio and this confirmed it!

  3. Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon every day.

It will always be exciting to read articles from other authors and use something from their sites.
