Fabulous Room Friday 07.04.14

Happy Fourth of July! I hope you are all enjoying a day off from the usual hustle and bustle. I’ll keep this short and sweet as I know you have a long weekend to get to. In honor of today’s national holiday, I thought it only fitting to feature a room dressed in red, white, and blue! Some of you may recognize this stunning space as it is a lounge in the chic J.K. Capri hotel. Designed by Michele Bonan, the three J.K. hotels (Capri, Florence, and Rome) are among my favorite spaces in the world, though admittedly, I have never visited one in person. I hope to get to visit someday soon.

Anyhow, the timeless architecture of the lounge at the J.K. Capri is defined by the contrast of the white millwork against walls painted in the perfect shade of navy and the dark wenge floors. As he does in the majority of the spaces he designs, Bonan opted for white upholstered furniture and a perfectly-curated mix of traditional and modern pieces, as well as use of classic symmetry. Bonan is one of my favorite designers with good reason. I can’t get enough of his style and find it endlessly inspiring.  This space will always be one of my favorites and it seemed ideal for today– the striped rug and neoclassical columns make the room feel perfect for the Fourth of July, don’t they?

  1. My home has different shades of blue in it, including the same Navy blue used here in my dinning room, so I totally adore this Lounge. I hope you get to visit one of these hotels in the nearest future Paloma.

  2. Hi Paloma,

What a great pick. My husband and I have been lucky enough to vacation at the JK Capri, and the experience of being there is indescribable. It is like living inside a dream. At the hotel, they fling the doors open to the sea, and the great big heavy cream drapes blow in wisps of the sea breeze while you settle into those white wing chairs in the blue room with your cocktail.

Being in the blue room was such a sublime experience for us that when we came back from Italy, we decided to paid homage to Michele Bonan by decorating our home in that same style–crisp white wing chairs framed by the fireplace in a cobalt blue room punctuated by lots of white trim, silver hurricanes and greek key accents. (Hint: Benjamin Moore’s “New York State of Mind” is a close match to the custom Farrow and Ball cobalt blue that Michele Bonan used in the blue room–trust us on this one!) Thanks for bringing back such happy memories of our vacation.

    1. Hi Heather,

That is amazing! I am so glad to hear that the experience of being there is as wonderful as one would imagine. It sounds like an absolute dream. Thanks for sharing the paint tip as well! I will have to keep that in mind for a future project.

      Thanks for reading LDV!

  3. Come sempre i tuoi articoli sono infinitamente belli. Anche in questo caso sei riuscita a trovare un ambiente capace di farmi brillare gli occhi, da cui si potrebbe trarre ispirazione anche per una casa da vivere ma ricca di stile!
