A Difficult Decision

I come to you with a heavy heart today. After deep introspection and many sleepless nights, the High Gloss Magazine team has decided that our July/August 2011 issue which was released last month will be our last. So many factors have gone into this decision and it is something that we have spent a lot of time contemplating very seriously. The journey that High Gloss has taken us on over the past year has been an incredibly enriching experience. I can only speak for myself, but creating this magazine and working on it day in and day out with our amazing team taught me so much, not only about the publishing industry, but about myself and people in general. It has been a tremendous growth experience with so many memorable moments and once-in-a-lifetime experiences along the way.

We are so thankful to everyone who has helped us since High Gloss was first bornโ€” our fabulous and supportive readers who gave us the motivation to make it through 80 hour work weeks and drove us to create the best magazine that we could, our team of editors in all of its various incarnations, the designers and style-setters whose beautiful work has greatly inspired us, the fiercely talented photographers who made all-day photo shoots so fun, each of our contributors without whom we could not have created so much original content, our ad sales staff and our web guru, Tim who made so much of the magic happen behind the scenes, our fellow digital magazine editors who have been so encouraging and helpful, the design community who embraced us, our friends and family for their unwavering support, and everyone else who has helped and inspired us throughout our journey.

In the end, we feel extremely proud of the level of content we produced in our beautiful magazine, but it seems that life has other plans for us. We have had a few lifestyle changes happen within our team and we each have some very exciting things on the horizon. It seems that when one door closes, another opens.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

  21. So sorry to hear this. As easy as it was for people to comment negatively regarding online magazines, and they never would have sent in a letter to a published shelter mag, it was just as much work to produce as a paper one – I respect all the work you put in for a year and you can always be proud of what you achieved in so little time.
    All the best,
    E (modern24seven.blogspot.com)

  27. Dear Paloma,

Surely this is a difficult day for you. I can only imagine the sleepless nights and hours spent over the keyboard, fingers raw, this past year — verily, this was your first baby.
But you’re very young and new doors are sure to open. I would encourage you to fling them wide and step into the light with your best foot forward.
Best of luck in all you do, Alcira

  30. Put aside how much I’ve looked forward to each issue of High Gloss to drop, how much I’ve enjoyed the inspirational articles and photos. When I read your latest blog post today, my heart sank a bit for you. We can only imagine how much time and energy you’ve put into each and every High Gloss issue, what personal sacrifices must be made just to make each issue go live. I had sensed some decisions or changes might be in the air based on some of the quotes you’ve been posting of late. Know something Paloma…from just a stranger out here on the interwebs, you have been a tremendous inspiration to me. You’ve dared to change your path in life, to TRY new adventures and put yourself out there. It’s bold, it’s brave and it’s what I aspire to as I’ll spend yet another day monotonously clicking away on an excel spreadsheet, dreaming about the day when I’ll be brave too. Girl, keep on keeping on. All the best for new adventures that await!

  31. I am so sorry to hear this Paloma, I have truly and thoroughly enjoyed each issue you have put out, and your style has always been right up my alley. But all in all, I know that there will be different successes waiting around the corner for you. Best of luck with your next endeavors.
