Lust List: August 2015

This month, I am having a really hard time not thinking about fall! All I want is to wear a sweater. Luckily, a cold front came through yesterday and cooled things off a bit, but it will still be quite warm here in Houston for a few more months. Since I am thinking about cooler days to come, I can’t help but gravitate towards hues that echo the fall season– bordeaux, camel, and army green with lots of black, white, and crisp denim for good measure. For me, the next couple of months are about transitional dressing– pieces that work when it is sweltering hot one day and cooler the next. You’ll notice most of the pieces I am currently loving have a bit of a seventies slant, too. I love blazers and jackets because they are perfect from one season to the next, they are great for traveling, and they instantly make me feel more polished.

Since this is a Lust List after all, the pieces I can’t stop thinking about lately are these Valentino Rockstud Pumps in the perfect neutral color (I tried them on in Las Vegas and loved them after I’d resisted this popular style for so long since everyone has them. They work with everything, though!), this new J.Crew leather jacket in oxblood with gold hardware, and this super chic Saint Laurent cross body bucket bag in the most perfect shade of gray. What are you lusting after this month?

One Piece, Two Ways: A Summer Staple

Tibi Top Stylecom

My wardrobe is decidedly filled with neutrals– black, white, navy, camel, and a bit of grey. I do wear color, but on the day to day, I prefer neutrals accented with great accessories. One of my wardrobe staples is white shirts. I own an embarrassing number of them in various incarnations. I love wearing a tuxedo style button down with great jewelry for evening. In fact, while I was in Los Angeles for Legends of La Cienega last week, I wore this Claridge + King Pique Popover in the day and for that evening’s festivities, I changed into the white Tibi Off the Shoulder Tunic pictured above. I loved how easy and effortless it felt and realized that my shoulders might be my favorite asset! It’s a great way to show a little skin when you’re modest like I am. I love the relaxed fit of the tunic and the pretty ties at the sleeves. I have a feeling I will be wearing this top quite a bit this summer and for years to come. I’m even contemplating buying it in black now.

I paired my top with a great pair of black pants from A Bientot, a pair of AERIN Python Sandals, the same Gucci Soho Disco Bag pictured here (so versatile– I love this bag!), and I finished the look off with plain gold hoop earrings, a great turquoise cabochon ring, and a gold cuff from A Bientot. I have pulled together a similar look below, using a few different pieces.

The great thing about a white shirt is that it goes with absolutely everything! This got me thinking about how I would wear the same top for daytime and I think it would look great with blue jeans or white jeans as I’ve pictured here. You could pair it with gold or tan flat sandals and a tan leather bag or straw tote and it would look fantastic.  How would you wear this top? Do you prefer the evening or the daytime look?
