Fabulous Room Friday 01.02.15

Good morning! Does it feel like Monday to anyone else today? Mid-week holidays always throw me for a loop! As I mentioned at the beginning of the week, I have had Spain on my mind lately and am so inspired by several Spanish interior designers, so I just had to feature this lovely living room in Madrid by Luis Puerta as the first “Fabulous Room” of the year. The space is elegantly composed and not overly “decorated”. I love the neutral palette, accented with rich tones, a variety of sumptuous textures, and mix of furniture silhouettes. Louis XVI-style armchairs are at home in any room and they look especially chic when paired with clean modern lines, like those of the sofa and coffee table in this instance.

The most stunning feature of the room might just be the classical architecture. High ceilings, windows with shutters, timeless moldings, and crisp white walls complement the striking antique mirrored wall behind the sofa. It makes for such a chic focal point. This room features so many of the elements that I love– a rich, neutral palette, a mix of masculine and feminine, a blend of modern and traditional, abstract art, mixed metals, and an unexpected element or two. What do you love most about this space?

This week’s “Fabulous Room” is a warm, eclectic living room in a New York apartment designed by Peter Dunham. The room is chic, collected, and globally-inspired in keeping with Dunham’s style sensibility. I love when a room looks as though it has been collected and composed over time, with each piece having special meaning. The mix of furniture and accessories is just beautiful from the mohair-covered sofa and 1950s Pierre Guariche floor lamp to the natural fiber rug and vintage chairs juxtaposed with classic art. The room feels warm and inviting and I love the neutral palette accented with a few pops of colors. The room is comfortable and livable while surpassing a sense of time and place.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Fabulous Room Friday 06.20.14

 I’ve been in Los Angeles this week visiting some of my favorite shops and showrooms to source some pieces for clients and luckily, I’ve been able to meet up with some friends while I’ve been here. I always enjoy being in L.A. so much. In a way, it feels like coming home, even though I have never lived here.  I feel inspired by everything around me– the architecture, weather, design community, creative friends, beautiful spaces– everything, really!

While this week’s “Fabulous Room” isn’t in California, I feel like it totally could be. I first came across the image above on Pinterest and loved the huge, rustic island, vibrant Kilim rug, blonde hardwood floors,  and the color of the cabinets. Doesn’t it look like it could be a set in a Nancy Meyers movie? It has a similar vibe to the kitchen Meryl Streep’s character had in It’s Complicated. In reality, the kitchen was designed by Cantley & Company of Birmingham, Alabama. When I set about tracking down more photos, I wasn’t able to find a website, but I did find their Facebook page and a couple more images of this lovely kitchen.

{I love the large island and the fact that it is big enough to seat so many people! I also really like the creamy color of the cabinets and all of the windows. The room looks so cozy and inviting, yet it is completely luxurious.}

{I love the hood over the range as well as the backsplash. As much as I love and use classic subway tile, it’s refreshing to see something slightly different. I also love the long cabinet pulls and that stunning Kilim runner. The kitchen looks like it could be in an old Spanish colonial house in L.A., a farmhouse in Napa or even the South of France, and apparently, Birmingham, too! It seems like the design scene is really thriving there right now. So much beautiful work is coming out of Alabama!}

Have a wonderful weekend! I am going to soak up a little more of L.A. for a couple more days.

Happy Friday! It has been a busy week full of excitement and activity. Thank you to everyone who reached out to comment on LDV’s makeover and on Part 1 of my Glamorous Project Reveal earlier this week! Your support and kind words mean so much. For those of you who commented that the new font color was a little difficult to read, I am happy to report that we have darkened the font significantly! In between this flurry of exciting happenings, I also installed the first phase of a project for the loveliest clients. I really feel so lucky to get to do this job and to work with such great people.

With so much going on, I am definitely ready for the weekend so I will keep this short and sweet. This week’s “Fabulous Room” is a beautiful master bathroom by Peter Dunham. I love everything about this space from the furniture-style, tapered legs on the cabinetry, to the paint color he selected for the vanities, and the classic freestanding tub juxtaposed against the warm finish of the wood floors. The sconces and simple grey linen roman shades are lovely as well, but my absolute favorite part of this bathroom is the shower. I am obsessed with the polished nickel frame and fixtures paired with the timeless marble. If you ever find yourself deciding between chrome and polished nickel, go with polished nickel every time! It is much warmer in hue and doesn’t have the blueish undertone of chrome. It looks rich, effortless, and works in any room and with any style. Isn’t this a gorgeous bathroom?

Have a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to enter the Huff Harrington giveaway for your chance to win a stylish pair of lamps!
