Color Crush: Yellow

Yellow rarely tops my list of favorite colors, but I’ve noticed that I have been gravitating to it more and more lately. Slowly, but surely, more and more yellow pieces have been finding their way into my closet. It’s a universally flattering shade when it comes to clothing—try it, you might be surprised; and it acts as a great neutral when it comes to interiors. I think most of us, myself included, have typically thought of it as more of an accent color, but it pairs so beautifully with so many other colors. In the past, I’ve looked at yellow as a risky color because it seems like it could go one of two ways—completely awful or downright amazing.

I am dying to try a little yellow action in a design project, but in the meantime, I’ll keep coming back to these gorgeous images for inspiration. Chris Martin has written a song about this color and Sasha Adler has proclaimed “yellow goes with almost anything in my world”. Beautiful though possibly polarizing, I am currently obsessed with rich, saturated shades of yellow. Are you a fan of yellow? Ask yourself again at the end of this post. You may just change your mind.

yellow sasha adler {How major was Sasha Adler’s former bedroom? It is just perfection from the bedding to the lighting and bedside tables, but the yellow, tufted velvet headboard encased in an antiqued mirrored frame steals the show. I hope it went to a good home when she sold it in a Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane recently!}

Color Crush: Coral

{Coral in a Beautiful Bedroom Vignette at the Oly Showroom}

Like all of you, I usually respond very strongly to the presence, or even the absence of color. My last two “Color Crushes”, Indigo and Moss Green were decidedly more saturated and less feminine than today’s Color Crush—Coral. With spring fully sprung and summer beckoning around the corner, this pretty hue is the perfect color for the season. It is beautiful in its many incarnations—from soft and pale with pink undertones to deeply saturated, almost red shades of coral. Depending on the tone you choose, it is a versatile color that works both as an accent as well as a neutral. What is your favorite color this season? Are you a fan of coral?

Color Crush: Moss Green

{Moss Green Sofas by Tilton Fenwick}
Green is a color that I am frequently drawn to. It has so many beautiful incarnations, but lately, I have been loving moss green more and more. I remember that my grandparents had these beautiful sofas in their living room upholstered in the prettiest moss green velvet. That living room is a place I only go to in my memories now, but it was so much chicer than I could have known as a child or teenager. Last week, my penchant for moss green grew further after seeing its beautiful presence in the AERIN showroom at Visual Comfort in High Point. It’s such a rich, versatile color, isn’t it? Are you as drawn to this shade of green as I am? What color is currently making your heart race?

Color Crush: Indigo

{Thomas Britt’s Dramatic Living Room via New York Social Diary}
I am a very visual person by nature. I’m pretty sure you are too, if you read design blogs. Lately, I’ve been drawn to certain colors more than ever before– one of which is indigo. People often attribute the color blue to depression, but I couldn’t disagree more when it comes to certain hues, especially indigo. I can’t get enough of this beautifully saturated shade of blue.

Color Crush: Turquoise + Gold

twig hutchison

{Twig Hutchinson}

Turquoise has long been one of my favorite colors. Although there are several shades of blue that I really like, I have never considered blue a favorite of mine. I believe the reason that I gravitate towards turquoise as much as I do is its underlying warmth. It doesn’t feel cold at all the way that other blues do, and it is almost universally flattering. The lovely warmth it possesses allows it to lend itself so beautifully to various shades of gold, the combination of which is my ultimate color crush at the moment.
