Fabulous Room Friday 11.06.15

I picked up the new issue of Veranda in the airport as I head to Los Angeles this week. It is filled with beautiful features this month including this stunning bedroom designed by Miles Redd. It is swathed in beautiful de Gournay wallpaper in the prettiest shade of blue. I’m assuming it was a custom color, but I’d like to think of it as midnight blue which is just perfect for a dreamy bedroom like this. The room is traditional through and through, yet it feels exuberant and magical in typical Miles Redd fashion.

I had the pleasure of attending the opening gala of the 2015 Maison de Luxe at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills last night. It was wonderful to see the beautiful and imaginative rooms designed by so many of my talented friends including Mark Sikes, Lauren Liess, Beth Webb, Andrew Brown, Kristen Buckingham, Brian Paquette, Benjamin Vandiver, Amy Meier, and Timothy Corrigan. We are going modern for this week’s Fabulous Room! I was drawn to the warm wood finish on the cabinetry in this New York loft kitchen. Interior designer, Jenny Vorhoff of Studio Riga designed a striking, modern space for her client’s young family. The kitchen feels airy thanks to the light cabinetry, white subway tile backsplash, and great lighting. There are many thoughtful details in the kitchen from the beautiful, brass fixtures and shelves to the thickness of the marble on the island. It is a definite showstopper! The built-in dining area below provides a fun moment in the space. I love the faux bois base on the table, caramel vinyl that is durable but emulates the look of saddle leather, and the graphic, blue and white Brunschwig & Fils wallpaper. While this kitchen is certainly different from my own aesthetic, it is filled with interesting, well-executed details.

Fabulous Room Friday 10.23.15

I first spotted this chic foyer by Anna Burke on Instagram! Anna is an alum of Kemble Interiors and currently practices interior design in New York. I love that the foyer in this East Hampton home honors its sense of place– everything feels perfect for the Hamptons! The little vignette with the gilded branch console, shell mirror, and chair upholstered in tiger velvet is such a chic moment. It sets the tone for the house as you walk in. The hexagon runner on the stairs and custom light fixture add a cool, modern touch to the space. It all feels classic and chic with an element of the unexpected thanks to the great mix Anna selected.

Have a great weekend!

Fabulous Room Friday 10.16.15

Earlier this week, I attended a design panel at the Houston Design Center with Phoebe Howard and Timothy Whealon who are promoting their new books, Mrs. Howard Room by Room and In Pursuit of Beauty, respectively. It was a treat to see them and especially, to hear Phoebe be so candid about her success in the industry. She attributes much of what she has accomplished to luck! While that may be true, there is certainly a great deal of talent and business savvy there as well. As a female entrepreneur and interior designer, it is very inspiring to see someone as accomplished as Phoebe Howard carve out their own path to success. Her trajectory has not been a traditional one. Instead of following a well-worn path, she blazed her own trail. I can certainly appreciate that as my own path has been quite unique as well!

I haven’t had a chance to read Phoebe’s new book yet, but I have flipped through all of the beautiful pages and was reminded of how much I love her work. It is tailored, elegant, and timeless. Some of her projects lean more traditional while others are a bit more modern, but they are all filled with thoughtful details.

One of my very favorite rooms designed by Phoebe is this gorgeous bedroom she designed for a showhouse in Atlanta years ago. The canopy bed alone is filled with stunning details, from the custom scalloped side to the beautifully pleated “ceiling”. I think it was wise to keep the palette neutral in order for all of the special details to really stand out. The room features some lovely antiques as well along with a sprinkling of gilded elements. I appreciate the classic symmetry used for all of the art. The last photo below features one of my favorite vignettes– timeless, pretty, and chic!

Fabulous Room Friday 10.09.15 + A Special Event

The other day, as I was engaging in my nightly therapy– i.e. Pinterest with a glass of wine, I came upon an image of Veere Greeney‘s sublime dining room and was reminded of how much I have loved this space over the years. The architecture of the 1879 London townhouse is spectacular on its own– with Veere’s touch, it is divine. The soaring ceilings, beautiful moldings, striking antique mirrored fireplace, and antique chandelier add drama and grandeur to the space, while the natural fiber rug and walls upholstered in Veere’s Temple fabric (an homage to David Hicks) ground the space. The antique Viennese chairs are upholstered in a beautiful yellow silk and feel a bit more relaxed around a round table. I also love the black and white abstract art. They add a perfect dose of contrast and modernity to the space. This room truly is an exercise in elegance and restraint.

Veere Greeney is one of my top favorite designers. I am continually inspired by his beautiful work and the fact that his chic home has been published by three leading design publications the world over is a testament to his talent and unparalleled eye. Sometimes, you just have to go back to old favorites. Don’t you agree?
