Book Review: Second Bloom by Cathy B. Graham

I recently received the loveliest book, Second Bloom: Cathy Graham’s Art of the Table. I love tabletop, flowers, and entertaining, so this was right up my alley. In a time when many invitations come via e-vite or text message, artist, collector, and entertaining expert, Cathy Graham makes her invitations by hand and relishes in setting a beautiful table. Graham’s table settings also have an unexpected element, whether it’s a tiny piece of furniture from a doll house or a bowl of fresh-picked vegetables from her garden, but one thing is for sure, the flowers are always stunning and there is always a special sentiment behind each beautiful tabletop.

In Second Bloom, Graham covers the essentials of entertaining and offers inspiring ideas for making the most of any occasion. With her signature appreciation of beauty and eye for whimsy, Cathy shares how she entertains at home, in New York City or in the Hamptons, during every season of the year. It’s fun to see how each space in her homes is transformed from one season to the next. Second Bloom has inspired me to be more whimsical when I entertain and to truly savor the details on a deeper level. I definitely want to try my hand at illustrating placecards and want to do my own version of her winter tablescape with heaping bowls of vibrant citrus! This book is a must for any hostess or for anyone who simply enjoys the beauty of flowers throughout the year.
