Zephyr Design Retreat: San Francisco and Napa Valley + A Giveaway!

This past Fall, I was invited to join Zephyr Ventilation, a manufacturer of range hood ventilating systems in San Francisco for a design retreat. I didn’t know too much about Zephyr at the onset of the trip, but by the end, I was thoroughly impressed by their level of technology and the ways in which they have challenged the notion that ventilation should be an after-thought in kitchen design since the company was founded in 1997. Zephyr produces some of the strongest, yet quietest ventilation systems I’ve ever seen and they are constantly coming out with new technology to improve one’s experience in the kitchen. Our group of designers and bloggers spent the first day of the retreat at the Zephyr showroom in the San Francisco Design District. We heard from their marketing and product development teams, as well as one of their designers, Fu Tung Cheng who is a brilliant architect and designer; had a delicious lunch and then explored a few showrooms in the Design District.

{On the first night, we had a welcome dinner at one of my favorite restaurant’s in San Francisco, Wayfare Tavern.}

{The fried chicken at Wayfare Tavern is out of this world and worth every last calorie!}

{On our third day of the retreat, we were treated to a wonderful day in one of my very favorite places on earth– the Napa Valley.}

{We had a wonderful wine tasting with the best cheese pairing at the lovely Joseph Phelps winery. I loved it enough to go back with Fabian when we went to Napa in December.}

{We also visited the impressive Hall Winery which specializes in Cabernets and has a state of the art facility which is amongst the most impressive I have seen in Napa. This chic, modern kitchen was in the room where our tasting was held.}

{On our way back to the city from Napa, we stopped to take in the stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire trip was wonderful. It is evident in every choice made for this retreat that Zephyr is a company that is passionate not only about ventilation, but about eating and living as well as possible. Thank you, Zephyr!

  1. Wow what a beautiful and exciting trip!
    I think that I might just have to journey out there even if it’s just for the food at Wayfare Tavern. Yumm-o – Fried Chicken and Butternut Squash, please.
    And, of course, no trip to San Francisco is complete without a ‘wine tasting event in Napa’ AWESOME!
    Thank you so much for sharing this memorable time.
    Have a beautiful Monday.

  2. Frozen pipes last week have moved up the schedule of our “someday” renovation. Modern range hoods would look out of place in my 150-year-old home, so I would choose the Monsoon liner. Beautiful products!

  3. Hi Paloma, what a wonderful trip and to learn about ventilation in such a beautiful setting to boot! I’hope I’m selecting the appropriate model – the tornado insert! Can you suggest rental homes in Napa? Thanks for all the inspiration and collaboration giveaway with Zephyr!

  4. #kitchengoals! Already following you; now following Zephyr, which is so not hard: kitchen love, culinary ideas and beautiful views. I would choose the Tornado Mini – we are going for minimalist upper cabinets and I love the idea of not being able to see it.

  5. How great is the PRO COLLECTION
    Willow Insert Outdoor vent! This is the perfect solution for the outdoor kitchen we are planning at our beach house.
    Our grill needs to be installed rather close to the house & this vent will keep the prevailing breeze from bringing grilling
    fumes back into the house.

  6. Wow. Beautiful! If I won, I would choose the cache. I love the extra storage and sleek design. Plus, it would give me the opportunity to get rid of that ugly microwave hanging above my stove. Win/Win!

  7. Ah! How amazing to find a beautiful range hood in black! I would choose the 30″ Savona Wall Range, I LOVE the European design! Beautiful. I would love to use this in my renovation, we are starting with the master bath next week- then will be onto the kitchen. Fingers crossed!!

  8. Too many sleek and functional designs to choose from! I settled on the Luce 32 inch stainless, for my now non-functional kitchen
    in hopes that if chosen, this design will set the tone to transform it to my dream kitchen. Thank you for taking part in this give away of Zephyr range hood.

  9. I love the Limited Edition Okeanito Wall unit. We are building our dream home and we start in a couple of months. I would LOVE to win this in black. It would look great with a white wall of subway tile all the way to the ceiling and our black framed windows… swoon!

  10. I’m building a new home and would want the largest one available because I plan on having a 60-inch range. I have my eye on the Tempest II wall 54-inch.

  11. From the Pro Collection
    The Tempest II Wall. 30”

    What a wonderful trip! Thank you for sharing it with us! San Francisco and the wine country are always favorites of mine!
    We were out there in September and I’m always reDy to return!

  12. I would choose the 42″ Tempest II Wall Range Hood. My existing gas range and hood have been well-used to feed 4 children, cousins, friends and family for about 18 years. Our house has always been the house to where people come. It is a revolving door and a very happy place. We would love an upgrade!!

  13. Thanks, Paloma! These hoods are beautiful, but my historic (circa 1925) kitchen would need the Monsoon insert. Glad to see you can still get great technology even when it’s hidden.

  14. I ADORE! the Savona! How beautiful the semi-circular design would be in a kitchen filled with boxy elements! We’ve never had a range hood in the 14 years we have owned our home so thank you Paloma and Zephyr for this amazing opportunity!

  15. That seems like it was such a wonderful trip! We just bought our first house and we are completely remodeling it ourselves. We are actually starting on the kitchen this weekend so what amazingly perfect timing for us to enter this contest! Winning the Tempest 1 Under-Cabinet would be a dream 🙂 Thank you so much for this opportunity and for the inspiration you bring from this uplifting blog!
