Fabulous Room 02.03.17

As I mentioned yesterday, part of my team and I are in New York today and through the weekend for a client installation in the Hamptons and to check out the NY Now show. Since we are here, I thought it would be great to feature a New York space today and came across this charming apartment featured in the new issue of ELLE DECOR. The apartment is housed in a 19th-century building in the heart of Greenwich Village and has been home to Ralph Lauren womenswear executive, Calhoun Sumrall for over thirty years. While Sumrall originally rented one of the studio apartments on the first level when he first arrived in New York and survived on five dollars a day, he eventually moved into the penthouse when the original owners passed away. The architecture of the penthouse is so charming. Just look at the beautiful windows in the living room! It actually reminds me a lot of the 1930s Spanish Mediterranean-style houses and apartment buildings in Los Angeles. The home also has a very charming, English feel to it, thanks to pieces in varying styles that appear to be collected over time, a warm color palette, and lots of block-printed fabrics. The home is an amalgam of sorts, but a special one, filled with character, personality, and charm– just like New York itself.

  1. Utterly spectacular!!!!!! Someday, odo you think you could interpreted your magnificent designs or some small measure of them to a 2200 square/foot ranch?! ❤❤❤

  2. This home is gorgeous! I love all the beautiful antiques and that iron stairwell railing is perfection. Love,Love,Love it, Thanks for sharing this one with your readers.

  3. Perfection—love it so much! Love those windows (and ceiling!) in room leading to terrace. The layering of antiques and pieces throughout gives such a classic, warm feeling. Inspiring!
