On My Radar: Christopher Spitzmiller for Visual Comfort & Co.

Beloved for his hand-crafted lamps, potter extraordinaire, Christopher Spitzmiller is expanding his reach with an exciting new collection for Visual Comfort & Co. Since opening the doors to his studio in 1996, Spitzmiller has designed lamps which have achieved icon status, thanks to their beautiful, hand-thrown quality and their exquisite glazes and colors. Spitzmiller lamps are beloved by just about every top interior designer in the country. We love them at Paloma Contreras Design, but because they are essentially works of art, they don’t always work for the budget on every project.

Spitzmiller’s partnership with Visual Comfort will make his beautiful lamps accessible to a much broader audience. Visual Comfort is the top lighting manufacturer in the industry, known for its unparalleled level of design and beautiful finishes and details, so the partnership is a natural match. In regard to how the Visual Comfort collection will differ from his original one, Spitzmiller says “This line is more modern and contemporary that what we regularly produce though there is a strong aesthetic connection between the two lines. Our clients will have more options with different styles and finishes that are available at a more approachable price point than I am able to offer for pieces produced at my New York City studio.”

The partnership signifies new territory for forward-thinking Visual Comfort as well, with Spitzmiller being the first of its design partners to specialize specifically on ceramic lamps. President and Founder of Visual Comfort, Andy Singer is looking forward to presenting the new collection to his company’s loyal customers at High Point Market this weekend, stating “We are pleased to bring Christopher’s beautiful works to life in a production environment while keeping with his signature styling and a new, fresh palette of finishes. Visual Comfort’s customers will now be able to select from a wonderful array of shapes and finishes that Christopher has created which will be part of our significant in stock assortment. Partnering with Christopher Spitzmiller who is regarded as an icon in his field once again reinforces Visual Comfort’s mission to be the premier resource for signature designer lighting.” The collection encompasses seven design families composed of ceramic table lamps and tole pendant lights in a variety of finishes including Aged Celadon, Black Pearl,  Red Orange,  Aqua Crackle, Burnt Gold, Mississippi Mud, Porous White, Avocado, Dark Honey, Rustic Bronze, Light Rose, Wild Lime, Flowing Blue, and Matte Black Metallic.
