I could not be more proud of or thrilled for my dear friend, Mark D. Sikes whose upcoming book, Beautiful is officially being released today. I remember sitting in Mark’s kitchen a couple of years ago and chatting about his book concept. Once everything started coming to fruition, he shared some of the layouts with me. Since then, I’ve had the chance to read an advance copy from cover to cover. They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but in this case, it is perfectly appropriate. Beautiful is exactly that– beautiful, inspiring, thoughtful, and full of special details.
With a foreword from Mark’s friend, beloved movie producer, Nancy Meyers, the book is divided by some of Mark’s favorite color palettes for both interiors and fashion– Blue and White Forever, Timeless Neutrals, Garden Green, Beautiful Brights, Sun-Faded Hues, Red My Way and so on. Each chapter begins with a beautiful mood board, like the Garden Green one below, and is followed by Mark’s thoughts on the chapter’s theme and a slew of gorgeous images by talented photographer, Amy Neunsinger.
Beautiful is filled with quite a few never-before-seen projects and all of the things Mark loves most– blue and white, stripes, Chinoiserie, verdant gardens, and his signature take on classic California interiors.
It has been incredible watching Mark make so many of his dreams come true through his talent and determination. Not only is he a special friend, he has been an incredible mentor to me– teaching me so many things and inspiring me to be better. As someone who has the pleasure of calling Mark a close friend, I can tell you that Beautiful is a complete reflection of how Mark sees the world– through eyes that seek out beauty, meaning, and enduring style. It is also a reflection of how the world sees Mark– as a talented, kind-hearted man with unparalleled good taste. This is a book I know I will turn to again and again and I have no doubt that you will, too.
