The CFDA Awards took place on Monday night to honor the best and brightest designers in fashion. A couple of years ago, a cable network called Ovation ran a fascinating reality series called The Fashion Fund which chronicled the process that CFDA Fashion Fund nominees endure from the time they submit their application to the evening the winner is announced. It was so interesting to see a glimpse into the challenging competition and the thought process of the judges panel which include Anna Wintour, Jenna Lyons, and Diane von Furstenberg. Anyhow, I would always get so invested in certain designers, sort of like you do with Project Runway, and it’s been fun to see how the winners and nominees– Paul Andrew, Public School, Tanya Taylor, Grey Ant, Edie Parker, Eva Fehren, and Misha Nonoo come to mind– have grown since being part of the CFDA Fashion Fund.

This year’s winner for Accessories Designer of the Year is the talented duo of Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel, otherwise known as Mansur Gavriel. Mansur Gavriel’s collection is designed in New York and produced in Italy. It has been in demand since the moment they introduced their chic totes and bucket bags a couple of years ago. In the time since, they have expanded their line to include more handbag silhouettes and recently added stylish sandals in suede and leather to their line. I love their line because it is classic, timeless, and beautifully made. The price point is really good for a designer bag as well. Now’s the time to get your hands on one of their pieces because Mansur Gavriel is getting hotter and more in-demand by the minute!
