A Chic Concept: Casa Cavia Buenos Aires

Over the holidays, Pasadena, California designer, Tamara Kaye-Honey‘s South American adventure popped up in my Instagram feed quite a few times. She snapped some very cool looking places, my favorite being Casa Cavia in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Intrigued by the beautiful interior, I took to Google to find out more about this striking space. It turns out, Casa Cavia is a very cool, creative collective in the Palermo Chico neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The founders, Guadalupe Garcia Mosqueda and Ana Mosqueda took what was known as the Bollini Roca residence, built in the 1920s and sought to turn it into something a multitude of people could enjoy. As such,

The Mosquedas turned to San Francisco and London-based architects, KallosTurin to design a distinctly modern space that paid homage to the beautiful, original architecture from Argentina’s gilded age. The new iteration of the space reminds us of Buenos Aires’ reputation as the “Paris of South America” with its crisp, white walls, herringbone wood floors, classic moldings, and intricate iron stair railings. The interiors are absolutely modern on the other hand, with a heavy emphasis on polished brass in various applications from the lighting to the case goods. The architecture serves as the perfect stage for a minimal palette accented with touches of gray and apple green. I love the idea of bridging together multiple creative disciplines under one roof. The idea is fantastic in that it provides a one-stop-shop for customers who are welcomed by Casa Cavia’s various “anfitriones” or hosts, who lavish upon them stylish hospitality across multiple disciplines. Fabian’s family is from Argentina and we are LONG overdue for a trip there, so maybe a visit to Casa Cavia will do the trick!

  1. Such a beautiful place! I especially love the iron stairway and the outdoor garden. Adding this gem to my must-visit list.

  2. Exquisite , what a place! But …Paloma, I can’t believe it you haven’t made it to Argentina yet! How is that possible? I have to go back to Lima, (Peru) every year, if not I get seriously sad, and we have the best cuisine of the world, so it is really hard to stop the urge to go!

  3. Oh you must go Paloma, what a gorgeous place, a perfumery, flowers shop and the book store; That ceiling!!

    xoxo
