Fabulous Room Friday 02.27.15

I’ve been thinking a lot about the ideal kitchen lately. Fabian and I have been going back and forth thinking about possibly moving and with that comes the opportunity to design a fantastic kitchen for us. I’ve quickly outgrown my home design studio, but we have yet to start a family, so do we really need more space? As much as I dream of a super traditional Greek Revival-style house, lately, I have been craving a super modern style house as well. It would be such a fun challenge. Do we pay a ton more to move closer in and then take on the necessary remodeling costs in a smaller house or should we build a new place in the suburbs? There is so much to think about– too much!

When I stumbled across this kitchen by Sage Design in Connecticut, I felt like it was the perfect marriage of the traditional and modern aesthetics I love almost equally. The kitchen feels completely classic thanks to the timeless white cabinetry, marble countertops and backsplash, and stainless steel appliances; yet it maintains a totally fresh appeal. The open shelving flanking the range, simple plumbing fixtures, clean countertop edges, and Cherner stools give it all a distinctly modern vibe. The blue and white striped runners tie it all together and the overall look is the best of both worlds– traditional and modern; fresh, yet timeless!

  1. Hi Paloma,
I am new to your blog and I’m loving it! I am a sole proprietor Designer. It is wonderful to have resources such as yours for great inspiration!

I always go back and forth between design styles. I love them all just about. I wish I could own a house for each style. I guess that’s why I love designing for others so much. I get to live vicariously through others. I think you have found the perfect kitchen solution for you. The nice part of having this kitchen is that you can choose traditional accessories for awhile and if your leaning towards your contemporary side you can switch them out for more contemporary accessories. Or mix and match! Design is so much fun!

  2. Maybe it’s Friday giddiness, but I always love reading your FRF posts! I am with you on the equal love for modern and traditional; this room really does accomplish both.

  3. Paloma I love this kitchen and have been seeing so many lately that are wonderful. My Pinterest page is full of some great ideas. Don’t you love Pinterest!!

  4. I love a classic white kitchen. I had the same blue and white striped rugs in mine, too. I’m in Houston too and we’re building way out in the burbs right now. It’s a very European home style and of course I’ve been drawn to these amazing modern houses in the city lately. Go figure!
