I have always been a very girly girl and have been obsessed with beauty products and make-up for as long as I can remember. While I don’t believe in being heavy-handed and prefer a more natural look, I do believe that every woman can use a little bit of help through the magic of great skincare products and make-up. I have always been very disciplined about skincare and can honestly say that I’ve never gone to bed without washing off my make-up with the exception of transatlantic, overnight flights on a few occasions. After turning thirty a couple of years ago, I have become even more obsessed with skincare and keeping wrinkles and needles at bay, so I am all about great moisturizers and serums now! Over the past few months, I have discovered some new products that have become my go-to beauty staples and rather than keep them to myself, I’d rather share my list with you and hope that you’ll let me know what your must-haves are.

1. I was recently being photographed for an upcoming editorial feature and the magazine was kind enough to send a hair and make-up artist. When I told her that I’d prefer to use my own mascara, she obliged and was immediately blown away by the results! I had used the same mascara for 8 years or so and finally decided to try something new when Lancome released their new Grandiose Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara this summer and I am so glad that I did. I can’t wait to put it on everyday because it immediately makes me feel glamorous. It lengthens, volumizes, and gives you the look of very tasteful falsies. The swan brush takes a little getting used to, but you will soon be addicted to this mascara!

2. I started using Kate Somerville‘s products at the beginning of the year and immediately knew I couldn’t go without them again. I need to make the time to book a facial at her Melrose Place spa the next time I go to Los Angeles because her products are amazing. I love all of the products I use from Kate’s line, but my favorite is her Dermal Quench Liquid Lift. It comes in a pressurized can and you essentially spray a few bands on either side of your face and your forehead. My husband likes to tease me about “spray painting my face”, but the results are well worth it. The product has been clinically proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles, skin’s moisture level, and overall radiance. It feels really amazing going onto the skin– it’s as if it oxygenates it in seconds. I can definitely tell the difference between when I use it and when I don’t. My skin just has more a of glow to it and I feel like I look less tired when I use it.

3. Another one of my favorite Kate Somerville anti-aging products is her KateCeuticals Restor8 Replenishing Serum which addresses eight signs of aging: wrinkles and sagging skin, dehydration and lack of volume, dullness and uneven pigmentation, roughness and enlarged pores through a sophisticated concentration of Vitamins, Nutrients, Peptides, and Antioxidants helps to smooth and firm, moisturize and plump, even out skin tone, and refine texture. After washing my face, I start with the Dermal Quench, then layer on the Restor8 Serum, my eye cream, and finally my moisturizer both in the morning and at night.

4. If you’re a fan of scrubs, Kate’s Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment is a must! The texture is very fine, but it has great grit, so you know it is actually exfoliating. I keep it in the shower and use it two to three times per week for a quick boost.

5. I’ve been using Origins face wash and moisturizers for years, but started using their High Potency Night-A-Mins moisturizer once I got into my thirties. I’ve heard from many skin care aficionados that Vitamin C is essential for keeping unwanted wrinkles at bay and maintaining a youthful glow. This nighttime moisturizer is enriched with Vitamins C, E, and H and it sloughs away dead surface cells and dullness while you sleep. It also has the most delicious, citrusy aroma!

6. I just have to add one more Kate Somerville product to the list. While I am fortunate in that I have never had issues with acne, I do get the occasional pimple or blemish which is when I dab on some Eradikate Acne Treatment before bed and the blemish is usually gone within a day or two.

7. Jo Malone has been creating intoxicating scents for quite some time now, but I recently fell in love with her newest fragrance, Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I first tried a sample in a magazine and then ordered it immediately because it smells so delicious and is the type of scent you can wear all year long.

8. I never leave the house without my face on. Part of that is because I was raised by a hispanic mother in the South and the other part is that I inherited my mother’s dark under eye circles. They aren’t as bad as they were years ago, but they are not the kind of thing that will ever go away. If you also have dark under eye circles, then you probably know how hard it can be to find the right concealer. Clinique recently debuted their All About Eyes Concealer. I’ve used their All About Eyes eye cream for years, so I gave it a try and have loved it. It has a great consistency, provides good coverage without looking cakey, and doesn’t give you the white halo effect in photos.

What products are you currently obsessed with? I’d love to know what your must-haves are for your beauty arsenal!

  1. Paloma – I have always loved everything about makeup since I was a young girl as well. Thrilled to have passed that on to my two stepdaughters, one of which entered the corporate make up world.

My newest obsession is Mac’s Listre Drops to highlight my face in the right areas. I love a little glow and use both day and nighttime. Have you ever tried it or do you use some type of highlighter?

    Best,

    Elaine
